The Course

The emblems of the soul emerge, escaping from within
As they trace that precious face they make my heart feel thin
Silently they speak with vocal clarity, leaving me with questions
Do those crystal pearls run their lovely course
For error I have made or words that I forgot to lend?
Or worse was it words or comforting embrace I could not make
As distance disadvantage conspires romance to break
The duplicity of love is its intensity
Making higher the flight of joys and sensations all
A fleeting flash of your smile or glance of your eyes
Slows my heart and brings calm that sleep has never done
And love's duality is such that your one tear
Wakes me at dark hours wandering in thought and fear
That drops of joy and pain escape from sources of their own
Creates a new mythology born of denial and grown
To belie these droplets flow from want and loss
Tears recognize in their descent that human state
A whistful inability to bathe in constant bliss
So brief breaks from love at hand tease the mind
That love may prove false or abandon premature
While insecurity saps loves joy through reddened eyes
I am with you constantly in response to sighs
