Anticipation's puppet boy amazed

He fails an eager Yuletide rest to earn

To chase before the blinding dawn a blaze

That in his breast and blackened skies does burn

Sloth slow and cold and premature he peers

Obscured by trees and shadows long he moves

Cresting hills until the southern view appears

Orion and his dog above the roofs

A streak! A flash! A scalpel slice! A pause.

Agape with eyes of wonderment respect

Her shower of bedazzlement is law

That rules his heart as in the skies reflect

In meteoric way his course reset,

He pressed on through the dark

To have her rise with him to light the dawn,

Ablaze with lusty sparks.
