Shadows

When shadows fall, think on me
Feel what we have in that place and time
That ne'er can be
While cool evening air floods round grass and trees
Like morning vapors clinging to the field
Reality wends serpentine and slow
When shadows fall, amber hues do glow
Warm in color, the thoughts we yield
When dawn breaks, think of we
Sense an alternative to the now
In the quiet of the morn
Your sunburned hands I long to hold
Your eyes of blue lock images in my mind
Your gentle tresses against my skin
Which only the wind can carry away
Oh the wind! It drives us off directions diverse and distant
The sun illuminates our world whisking shadows from view
When shadows fall again in the silence
Say a prayer that we had what exists in no other place and time
What could have been, what may be
In a someday dreams and hope rove free.
