stories "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"

and "Rip Van Winkle", he was also a

prolific essayist, biographer and

historian.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

tells the story of Ichabod Crane, a lanky schoolmaster who competes for the hand of the young, beautiful Katrina Van Tassel. He is also pursued by a Headless Horseman.
